Frequent Asked Questions
Most clients describe the sensation as similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin — noticeable but very manageable. The discomfort is significantly less intense than many people expect, and far less than getting the tattoo itself. At Bare Again Tattoo Removal & Laser Skin Clinic, we use a medical-grade cooling system throughout every treatment to reduce heat, protect the surrounding skin, and make the experience as comfortable as possible. The cooling system is applied continuously during the session, which substantially reduces discomfort compared to clinics that don't use active cooling. Most clients find the sessions very tolerable, and discomfort typically decreases as the tattoo fades over successive treatments.
In many cases, yes — full removal is achievable. However, results vary depending on a range of factors including the ink type, colours used, the depth the ink was applied, the age of the tattoo, and how your skin and immune system respond to treatment. Black and dark grey ink tends to respond most readily to laser treatment. Bright colours — particularly greens, blues, and yellows — can be more stubborn and may require additional sessions or may result in significant fading rather than complete removal. We will always give you an honest, realistic assessment of what to expect for your specific tattoo during your initial consultation. We don't over promise — we'd rather set accurate expectations and exceed them.
Yes, a consultation is required before treatment begins. This allows us to assess your tattoo in detail - size, ink density, colour range, depth, and placement - as well as evaluate your skin type and medical suitability for laser treatment. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions, understand the process, and discuss your goals.
Consultations can be as quick as 5 - 30mins, depending on the area and requirements. If time permits, treatment may be performed on the same day as a consultation. The consultation is the foundation of your personalised treatment plan and can be done via phone, email or in-person. Walk-ins are welcome at Bare Again Tattoo Removal & Laser Skin Clinic Chelsea, subject to availability.
In addition to laser tattoo removal, Bare Again Tattoo Removal & Laser Skin Clinic offers targeted laser treatments for a range of skin concerns including: pigmentation and sun damage (age spots, melasma, uneven skin tone); acne and acne scarring; skin texture and congestion; and overall skin clarity and radiance via the Carbon Facial (Hollywood Peel). If you're unsure whether your concern is suitable for laser treatment, book a consultation and we'll assess and advise.
Downtime is minimal for most treatments. After laser tattoo removal, you may experience redness, mild swelling, and warmth at the treatment site for 24 to 72 hours — similar to a mild sunburn. The Carbon Facial has virtually no downtime and most clients return to normal activities immediately with a visible glow. Pigmentation and acne scar treatments may involve 3 to 5 days of mild redness or slight darkening of treated spots before they fade. Full aftercare instructions are provided after every session.

Absolutely — and we recommend it. Fading a tattoo with laser treatment before a cover-up gives the tattoo artist a significantly lighter canvas to work with, which opens up more design options and allows for a cleaner, more vibrant result. You don't need to fully remove the original tattoo — in most cases, 3 to 5 sessions of targeted fading is sufficient. We work with clients and their tattoo artists on this regularly.
In the 4 weeks before treatment: avoid sun exposure on the area being treated, avoid tanning (including spray tan), stay hydrated, and avoid blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) unless medically necessary. On the day: come with clean skin — no moisturiser, sunscreen, or makeup on the treatment area. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo. Full preparation instructions are provided at your consultation.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) refers to dark marks or discolouration that remain on the skin after inflammation — most commonly after acne breakouts, but also after injury, irritation, or certain skin treatments. It occurs when the skin produces excess melanin in response to inflammation. PIH can be effectively treated with laser at Bare Again Tattoo Removal & Laser Skin Clinic, though it requires a tailored approach and careful assessment to avoid worsening the discolouration. A skin check is required before treatment.
The Carbon Facial (Hollywood Peel) is a specific treatment protocol that combines liquid carbon application with two passes of the laser to achieve deep cleansing, pore refinement, and skin brightening. It is primarily a resurfacing and rejuvenation treatment. A standard laser skin treatment at Bare Again Tattoo Removal & Laser Skin Clinic Tattoo Removal & Laser Skin Clinic targets a specific concern — pigmentation, acne, or scarring — with the laser applied directly to the affected area. The best treatment for you depends on your skin concern, and we will advise at your consultation.
The Lutronic Hollywood Spectra is designed to work safely across a range of skin tones. However, some treatments — particularly pigmentation removal — require additional assessment and adjustment of laser settings for clients with deeper skin tones to ensure safety and avoid unwanted side effects. We assess every client individually at consultation. Safety and appropriate treatment are always our priority.
